Cadet Original axle seal

Postby jostev » Mon Oct 10, 2005 6:41 pm

I have a 1962 Cub Cadet Original that must have a bad seal on the right side sitting on it. How do I go about changing it? thanks for any advice, Jostev

Jostev.: You have the easy side. Take the the 5 bolts off the axle housing and pull the housing and axle together. the grease seal is in the differential housing. seal part # IH-610465-c 91. You might want to check the axle bushing(IH-376160-R1) while you have it apart. Just take the snap ring off and pull the axle. The left side has the brake to mess with.

I just got the prise and there is a number change. from R91 to R-92

IH-376160-R1 BUSHING 18.23
IH-610465-C91 USE IH-610465-C92 10.13

I just edited the post. I got the wrong seal number. Use the numbers by the price I added. You can get them at a cub dealer, IH dealer and maybe a Case dealer. I can give yoy the phone number of a good dealer in WI that will have it and ships every day. Madson's Service Inc. 1-920-773-2661.

The seal is in the transmission case and should pop right out of there with a large screwdriver or pry bar. use a block of wood under it so the seal can move out. You can try putting two self tapping screws in the seal across from each other and pry on those with a claw hammer or crow bar. They also have a seal removal tool that hooks behind the seal and is "L" shaped so you can hit it with a hammer. Good luck

One of my favorite tools fro removing seals is a slide hammer puller like used on body work. runt the supplied sheet metal screw into the eal and slide the mhammer a few times. Can remove many seals without even removing the shaft.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

thanks john, I will try that next time on the other side, the only thing is that you have to take the shaft out just to get to the seal. But thatnks anyways, i will try that on other stuff when needed. Jostev
