Gardens For 2018 Season

I used the 4630 last Friday with the boxblade to fill in the furrow where I plowed it in our garden. We have 3-16’s and it’s 6 of those wide. Almost buried the tractor it’s so wet. I just needed a little seat time, lol.

In the mood for gardening. Not going to happen for perhaps another month. Ground temperature is still in the mid 40's.

Received an English walnut and a pecan seedling. Had son plant then on his house property.

Planning on tending to the asparagus, strawberry, black berry, and garlic patches. Only planting radish and ice box sized melons this year. Things I can do in short work periods without having to sit down.

I have stenosis which really limits my activity. Epidural in lower right spine Monday, MRI on Wednesday, X rays and doctor visit today/Thursday.

Having a hard time getting into the gardening mood this year. Second day of Spring and still 20 degrees with concrete-like frozen earth and white frosting to top it off. Mother Nature sure does need a calendar!

Ground wet and not workable. Hot peppers are flatted up, sweet are starting to grow. some flowers are starting to grow. They are currently in sun porch. May start greenhouse next week. Our average frost free date is May 11. Onions of course are ok ahead of that. Start seeding tomatoes sunday. Vern

Getting ready here. Top dressed with a layer of garden medicine ( horse manure) a couple of days ago. Thought about getting the tiller out and turning it in but grounds still a little to wet. Got 1/2 inch of snow that night but was melted off by noon. The sun is cutting a better angle now and winter is on its way out. Looking forward to planting season on the Ohio/ Michigan line.

Can't even think about getting into the vegetable garden to till it until mid-May. Have a Troybilt Econohorse.
Need to clean the asparagus bed soon, even though I don't eat it. My wife and daughters love it.
Strawberries are still covered with snow.
Raspberries will need some tending.

Hang in there guys!! When it does open up,---look out!!!!
I ended up with 7 rows of onion plants, rows are 225 feet long.--got fert. and preen over the top today and 1 long row of sugar beets, a couple short rows of peas, 1 short row with regular red beets, carrots, and parsnips in it planted before dark today.
Keep posting as your conditions improve, or as you get equipment ready!! lol!!! thanks; sonny

I'm currently tracking the soil temperature and the drought monitor.

Mostly the soil temperature before planting. Soil temperature is still in the mid 40's.

With the recent rains, part of the county has moved from moderate drought to abnormally dry.

Will just have to wait and see.

Edit: Last two tree seedlings came in the mail along with free packets of vegetables. Trees were a pecan and a dwarf plum, packets were a climbing Trip L-tomato, and a huckleberry. Guess I will plant both seed packets and see what happens.

Still waiting on a packet of yellow doll watermelon seed to be delivered.

YA!---taters kinda didn't get in yet!--Ran out of daylight, and pole light was too far away to help light my rows!
Did get all the onions in and some peas, sugar beets, regular red beets, carrots and parsnips.--Oh, and a few radishes. ( I can't chew them, but the mission guys can!)
I usually get taters in around the hundredth day.--varies from year to year, depending on the weather, which is kinda wild again this year! lol!! thanks; sonny

thats what ours still looks like Sonny only 3' deep
rain tonight and upper 40's this week should wash some of it away
tomato seeds started again [first set got cooked ] warming them on top of the boiler,, usually only takes 3 days so they just got too hot.
