For years i've used a grill and a dehydrator. I recieved a propane outdoor smoker for christmas and really didn't think much about it. Well I tried it this weekend and threw my grill and dehydrator away. Has anyone else tried these things? they are really great. you can cook/ smoke/ dehydrate, ect in them in far less time than the others and the results are really unbelievable. LOL I maybe exchanging recipies. :D

I have both a wood / charcoal fired and a propane smoker. I like them both for different reasons.

I have smoked turkeys in mine. I have a charcoal smoker.
I get 1/4" thick slice bacon and wrap the top of the turkey and never let the water pan go dry. The drippings in the water pan make excellent gravy and the turkey is tasty and moist.

Big Dog, is their much difference in the flavor Propane vs. charcoal? My smoker needs new water pans and I was thinking about getting a propane smoker.

Brian - there is little if any difference between charcoal and propane. Just use wood chips of your choice for flavoring.
The propane is infinitely easier to use. Don't have to worry a bout over-smoking and it definitely does not require as much tending as a charcoal or wood fire.
