Rain

Postby Billy Fussell » Fri Jul 06, 2007 11:28 am

It has been RAINING here all morning like the cow and the flat rock you have heard so much about. The water is standing everywhere. I am thinking of planting rice next year. Maybe not. I would have to buy a water buffalo.

Dan, Not a bad idea. They eat good too. Just add french fries and hushpuppies.

I wish you would quit talking about the excess rain you are getting. We got 1 3/4 inches of rain last week, but ground was so dry the new grass is already starting to turn brown again. about 20+ inches behind for the last couple years or so.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Rain

Postby Billy Fussell » Fri Jul 06, 2007 12:24 pm

John, I feel your pain. We are comming off a 2 year drought. It would quit raining about April and wouldn't rain to speak of till November. I tried watering, but I couldn't buy enough water hoses to reach. Just had to grin and bear it. Hope when your rain starts, it will be the regular amount and not like we are having.

Hey, John, we're at the 15" deficit so far for this year and it couldn't come at a worse time. Was in the grocery store yesterday and squash was on sale for $2.49 per pound and okra was the same. Tomatoes are running anywhere up to $3.49 lb. and then aren't worth hauling home. Jalapeno peppers are the only thing I'm getting enough of right now and they are $2.00 lb at the store. Guess we just have to grin and bear it this year  . Pete

So far grocery prices haven't been affected in this area so far as I know, but a lot of our produce comes form AR. and the roadside stands are selling it for 99 cents a pound, tomatoes, potatoes, squash, etc.

May all those who need rain get it and for those of us with too much
(10 in. over normal here) may we get a much needed break. We're
all tired of the wet and floods and I'm personally tired of mowing a
swamp  (Cubs don't float too good  )
