Farmall Cub

Well we got another 1/4" of rain last night that was desperately needed, but along with it, some wind.

Now, my corn is leaning at about a 45 degree angle, some of it worse than that. I don't feel too bad - other corn patches I've seen along the drive to/from work are flat on the ground.

Question - leave it alone, or try to stand it back up? I'm assuming as long as it didn't snap the stalk, it will still grow (albeit a little crooked) and produce?

Just leave the corn alone. It may straighten "some" up by itself. It should grow and produce.

I had that happen to 50 feet of 4 row sweet corn a few years back. I stood it up and hand hoed soil on the base and it did ok. It was a bit of work bit worked out fine.

If it is not over 45 degrees it will stand back up a lot on it own

As others have stated, it will do fine if left alone. Probably better than if you try to "help" it straighten up.

Got my first mater last night - ain't quite ripe enough to eat, but just couldn't wait to pick it!! OK, where's that mayonnaise and bread???

I had a thunderstorm last year[sheer wind]get my corn last year.Knocked it down flat[1st row]rest came back up.Wish my corn was doing as well as last year.To wet to get in and cultivate and side dress.Kevin

Its strange how that corn stands back up. I think it comes up to the sun.


If you have ever noticed a big field of sunflowers raised commercially, they all face the east in the morning, and as the day goes on they look west by evening, next day do it all over. The sun has a powerful effect on plants, I guess thats why some plants say "full sun" to do their best.

I know I grew enough Okra this year in full sun to probably feed an Army.
