One thing I learned on the racoons was if you get one keep the trap out and get the rest of them. You will get the big one first and the size will taper off but there is more than one.

I have fox, coons, coyotte at night and hawks during the day trying to take my chickens.
The pen I have is 3 sides chain link dog kennel bolted to the side of the hen house. The fourth side is bolted down closing off the top. Nothing can get through it.
I have also taken 1/2" chicken wire going three feet up the sides, then 4" down and bent out away going about 2' out from the pen. Coons can't reach thru the wire to get the hens and if anything wants to dig under they hit the wire. They aren't smart enough to know to back away 2' and then dig.
Three years now with this setup and though some have tried, nothing can get in.
I'll see if I can get pics of the setup attached soon.
Mike.

A couple who runs a pheasant hunting preserve has hawk problems. Ever so often a hawk will dive bomb their flyway breaking the rods that hold the netting up and stretching the netting enough to take the head off a pheasant.

The guy's a shooter, and has tried to get him with a shotgun, when those hawks come down they do so faster than you'd believe.

It was a few years ago one morning I when out the back door, and man you would have thought it was world war two.
My barn is about 1000 feet away from the house but my dog Missy was raising the roof. She sleeps in the barn, when I got to the barn she had the biggest raccoon I ever saw cornered, I started back to the house saw my son coming and yelled get the shot gun.
When we got hold of Missy that raccoon took off my son killed it behind the barn running for the woods. Missy was OK not a scratch. Missy is gone now but I think of her often 1992-2009 best dog I ever had she guarded the barn and never hurt the Chickens,Goats,Cows, Horses, ducks,Pigs, cat,Kids.I do miss her. :)

I had a raccoon kill all 50 of mine. Put a dog out with the chickens and she never caught it. So at night I went out with a flashlight and a shotgun and found it in the trees. Before that we had put out traps and caught about 4 possums. So my advice would be to check the trees near your coop a couple hours after sundown.
