here in pennsylvania we have our tags or stamps rationed to harvest does, depending on what management area you live in they allot a certain amount. i received my antlerless deer tag today so i guess i'm going to be doing a little hunting this fall. i wondered if this is the same way it's done in other states? i doubt there are any free for all's left where you can shoot whatever crosses your path. just thought i'd put it out there for discussion???? :)):

In Illinois, you get one either-sex and one anterless-only permit for the shotgun season. Archery permits are purchased over-the-counter and you can just keep filling them. Only 2 antlered deer are permitted per year, archery and gun combined.

Ma allows you to purchase extra tags if available in the different zones.

The deer are so thick in Virginia the DGIF has a "Earn-a-Buck" program. After your first buck you must kill a doe before you can take another buck. Season limit 6, 2 per day, extra tags available.

In Mississippi, the bag limit on antlered buck deer is one (1) buck per day, not to exceed three (3) per license year. In my management zone, a legal buck is defined as having EITHER a minimum inside spread of 12 inches OR a minimum main beam length of 15 inches.

The bag limit on antlerless deer is one (1) per day not to exceed five (5) per license year.

Starting last year, Alabama placed a limit of 3 antlered deer per season. If I remember correctly one of those must have four visible tines on one side. In the county I live in you can harvest one doe per day for the entire season. Bow season starts in October, firearms in November and ends at the end of January.

In Kentucky, it depends on what zone you are hunting but for the most part you can take one of each. They offer additional doe tags for a small amount. They are begging us to shoot more doe. :D That's good eating.

It varies across SC, but where I hunt there are either sex days (two anterless per day on those days) as opposed to the normal buck only days (any buck with tines greater than two inches is legal. Less than two is considered anterless). That is unless you have deprivation (sp ?) tags. The does are so thick, we get anywhere from 40-50 tags during the season for anterless deer. We have even gotten the deprivation tags for spring and summer too through a DNR buddy of my uncle's. In my game zone, no limit on bucks for the season, and virtually enough anterless tags to cover as many as you can stand to shoot. It's a tradeoff though - plenty of deer for the sportsman, but one whale of a nuisance for the farmers :(

My bow season starts Saturday !!! Can't wait :{_}: Guns Sept 1 !!! 8)

Sent in my application for the doe tag (4A) but haven't heard anything yet. Bedford county never has gotten any awards for getting anything done in a timely manner.  Grump
