Orka

Postby oldfarm » Sun Sep 27, 2009 8:14 am

In north west Ga. we have had much rain in Sept. The orka pods have grown small raised spots on them about the size of a pencil lead. Any idea of the cause and preventions.

Mine have always done that in the later part of the season. Never found a cause. They don't seem to change the quality of the eating any. :D

I know you down south guys don't to hear it but we have had the same thing happen the years we grow Okra in "DAM YANKEE" land. Tasted just as good with and with out. I like greens and black eyed peas too.

Dan when I was a kid State4n Island had many farms, both dairy and vegetable. During WWII my father worked on Tyndall Field, Panama City Florida. We lived in a piny, sandy swampy area. In many ways my brother Bob and I were more red neck than some of the locals. Bob and I had gotten our lumps as "DAMYANKIES" fromk time to time but we got our just licks in too.
Got to like a lot of southern food then.

Thanks for the replies, yall', This is the first time my orka has had these systoms. Don't seem to change the taste. Oh, by the way, I gave some orka this year to some friends from N. Y. City, they moved here after 9-11-01, never eaten orka before and said it was the best stuff.... I've been growing food from gardens for years, never had or used a Cub tractor, just got one from by oldest sister, it belong to my brother-in-law, it has been sitting for over 8 years, it want start. I want to get it running and start using for plowing in garden, my old Troy Bilt tiller is over 30 years old, and it don't have a seat!!!
Any suggestions about doing first things first for this old Cub. I'm not the best mechanic around, I do have a hammer and few wrenches..
