23 Jan 2010, Des Moines Register. quote: A national weather forecaster told a farmland values seminar Friday that Iowa can expect another wet spring and a possible delay in the planting season, another cool summer and a possible early frost in the fall at harvest time. unquote.

I have ordered shorter season vegatable seeds for this summer's garden. Garden results from last summer were disappointing due to cooler and wetter weather.

The "oldtimers" around here are saying the same thing. Makes ya wonder about forecasters calling the shots down the road and can't predict tomorrows weather right. Sure would be nice if theyre wrong. Grump

One thing is for certain,,,this year will not be exactly like last year(yeaaaa) and there will be a "window of opportunity" to GIT ER DONE!! Tune em up, grease em, and be ready to hit it full throttle when the window opens. Works for me anyway. Greg

I look for cold/late start, BUT will be planting the same way/same varieties that I always do. shorter maturing varieties are not the answer to crop or no crop if weather turns/stays bad.--also keep in mind that you need to plant what is normal for your area.---not all varieties will do well in all areas.

Big has had seed packs out for a couple weeks---10 for a buck.---I didnt get any. thanks; sonny

Just not fair :(
Dad bought mom a greenhouse for christmas so hopefully we will be able to prolong our growing season. Of course my plants are just in the normal garden :(
I've been trying to decide on buying seeds now through a magazine company or wait until the stores have them out more. No one around here has them for sale yet though
I just hope I can control their mositure level better this year than last, most of my plants are in huge buckets

Don't worry you have plenty of time. No need to start plants until 6-8 weeks before last frost. A greenhouse may even shorten that time. My opinion only that big box seeds are not as good as "some" mail order seeds. I did a comparison in the field to come to that conclusion. My local Co-Op is my main source of seed. They are about 1/2 the price of others. My second source is one of several small mail order places. Local knowledge is a good reference. Get several catalogs and compare. Besides, it's fun to read seed catalogs in the winter. Good luck. :D

I hope this year is not like last year.We had a late frost.I didn't get burned[or frozen]but a "normal" year would be nice.Of course what is normal??? How about a average year. That would be ok.Kevin
