Older savage 22cal pump rifle???

Postby BigBill » Fri Apr 22, 2011 8:11 pm

I picked up an older savage 22cal pump rifle the other day and its so old there is no serial number on it. I'm trying to find out how old it really is, any thoughts?? At one of my local dealers he had this one marked $199 and a similair Ward's 22cal pump marked $129 both in very good condition++. Lately i been seeing the older 22cal pump rifles go from $375 to over $1,000. I guess there becomming very collectable. I did pick up both pump rifles, because at these prices there hard to pass up. I found the next older Wards than mine on the net for $595 (octagon barrel) so this puts my ward pump rifle worth at least $375(round barrel) to start off with. The receivers on both the savage and the ward are the same but the wood handle on the pump slide are different in size. I believe that savage manufactured the rifle for ward's too. (montgomery wards). I notice that some gun shops just want to dump these older rifles just to make there investment back quickly. I just couldn't pass up buying both. Bill

I figure to arm some of the family with the 22 pumps with some empty soda cans and have a shoot off all at the sametime.

I've inherited a Remington Fieldmaster Model 121 pump 22. It was manufactured in Nov of 1940--no s/n but the barrel markings indicate the manuf. date. Serial numbers on guns were not required until 1968.
