Fall Garden

Postby Tezell » Sun Aug 07, 2011 10:56 am

I planted my fall peas on Friday. I planted 8 rows of zippers and 8 rows of cream 12's. If they make I hope to sell some of them to help build up my "cub fund".
I need to purchase a cultivator and a set of planters so I can stop having to borrow my Dad's.

My Dad rigged up this old mule planter on his cub. It turned out good and really does a good job planting. I will post some more pictures when the peas comes up.

After I finished Daddy politely told me that "those crooked rows are okay......you can plant more seeds in em."

He sure is smart sometimes. :D

Don't feel bad Tim, takes a lot of practice on those rows. When will you be picking? End of Oct,? I've been considering planting a fall garden, but not too sure what will grow around here this time of year.

The planter does look at home on my Dad's Cub.

I will have to get you some pictures of how he mounted it on the tractor. It is in Alabama and the next time I go over I will take my camera.

Harold, we normally plant peas, beans, squash, cucumbers, peppers etc..

It seems we have less bug problems in the fall and it sure is cooler come harvest time, which will be the end of September and into October.

Here are my peas 12 days later.

The cream 12's came up really well and the zipper peas are a little skippy.

Maybe I should have used both sides of the seed hopper on the zippers, since they were a much larger seed.Hopefully they will look better after I plow and fertilize them this weekend.

Looks good Tim. I think it was Boss Hog that told me to use both sides of the planter for peas.

As you can see the small white peas did fine on one side but you and Boss Hog are right, it takes both sides on the zipper peas......next time.

That looks to be one of those Texas sized peas in the last picture.
I love the planter mounted on the cub handles and all, couldn't imagine using something like that while driving a mule.
