Postby johnny j » Wed Jan 04, 2012 3:36 pm

Here are some pictures of my 58 caliber muzzle loader. It is 49 inches long and I believe the barrel is rifled.

Here ya go Johnny,
these smooth bores were imported from Belgium during the war and given the name punkin slingers. They shot a 69 cal. round ball and patch, northern soldiers would come out and taunt the shooters knowing they're range and accuracy were really bad.
Southern soldiers then began mixing loads of what they called "buck and ball "to put more shot in the air.
That put a stop to all the taunting...
I've wrapped this one in camo tape and taken several Spring gobblers and deer by mixing 45's and double ott buck shot.
Kicks like a mule too...

Yep Kevin, when they started a muzzle loading season here it was fun and only traditional style was allowed. Then they went to inlines, next they allowed scopes...
I stopped the hunting after that but still like to shoot them now and then.
Gray Cub and I have a Thompson Renagade and a couple Hawkens in the 54 caliber.
I have the most fun out of shooting the 44 revolvers.
