Ledger contains a lot of transactions between neighbors. The debt was usually paid in kind or like produce at a later date.

Goldie Kenyon. 21 Jun 1955, 3 & 3 1/4 lbs chicken. 28 Jun 195, 1 dressed chicken $2.00. To take pay in potatoes. 28 Jul 1955, 21 lbs potatoes. 31 Aug 1955, 25 lbs potatoes. Total 2 bushels potatoes = $4.00

Goldie Kenyon. 17 Nov 55. Hind quarter beef. 167 lbs @ 25 cents per lb. $41.75. Final Installment payment made 18 May 1956.

Jess Hill and M.J. Garreau
25 Apr 1945 Garreau received 2 front quarters of beef, 176 lbs.
4 Aug 1945 Hill received 212 lbs front of beef.
13 Jun 1946 Garreau received front quarter, 136 lbs.
12 Jun 1947 Hill received 160 lbs of front quarter
Agreed upon price was 39 cents a lb on 12 June 1947. Final payment was made on 20 Feb 1951.

7 Jul 1937 Walter Sauter. 1 quarter beef, 89 lbs. Value 30 cents per lb.
30 Oct 1937 Walter Sauter returned 1 quarter beef. Weight 75 lbs.

That is a pretty neat ledger to have. Took some time didn't it. But what a record of history.

Amazing prices !

People used to work for $2 / day. Now they spend 3 times that at Dunkin Donuts on their way to work.

Everything's changed so much. Seems like beef prices on there could multiplied by 6 - 8 - maybe 10 times.

What always amazes me is eggs. Didn't we sell eggs for .75 / dozen in the 1960's ??? Very tough business back then. Now our eggs come from giant producers. But prices of eggs didn't go up like other things.
