Awoke to mildew

Postby pickerandsinger » Sun Jun 30, 2013 10:22 am

I had one tomato bed 50 foot long which was wide enough to accommodate a row of tomato's and a row of various pepper plants....It was a raised row to which I added some soil amendments and weed barrier, soaker hoses and with wood chips on the top....Scientific gardening???? Anyhow with the rain and never really getting to dry out this am The bed was covered with mildew.....Soooooh off came all the wood chips, weed barrier and soaker hoses I never used any way and now were back to the basics....All that stuff probably works in the right conditions but this year is not the right conditions apparently....The rest of the garden is still doing well and we were picking peas, radishes and lettuce this am also....The "Cub" garden which is just a plain ol garden is doing fine also...It contains tomato's, corn and beans for the rabbits....lol....I wish my last 2 cherry tree's would ripen....Their on the verge of splitting and mildew is starting to set in.....They are loaded with cherries but we have picked 3 other trees so we have plenty for the freezer and canning....Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.....Dave
