Bobcat

I was walking the dog this morning, she picked up a scent and jumped into one of the irrigation ditches on my property. I caught a glimpse of something climbing up a tree just as Darby got to the base of it. When I got close enough to see what it was, up 30 feet in the crook of a branch was a bobcat. I've never seen one before, although when I called my neighbor about it, he said he had seen some tracks in the mud that he thought might be a cat. Watched it just sitting there, and then continued on the walk. I don't think Darby even saw the cat, as she came with me easily and would have not done so if she knew something was up there.

We have them around here, but they're pretty shy and usually nocturnal. Not much of a bother around here, they don't mess with pets, but maybe because the woods around are full of squirrels and rabbits. Cool that you actually got a close look at one.

Have 'em in Missouri as well.

Was turkey hunting one Spring with a turkey decoy set up 30 yards out in front of me in an empty corn field. There I am yelping like a hen when a big bobcat comes ambling across the field looking at my decoy. YIKES! Definitely NOT the kind of thing you want sneeking up on you when you sound like his dinner.

Bet you'll keep your eyes open for 'em on future walks. :D

Bob, next time I come up, we can go out and try and catch him by his tail. Should make for some excitement! :D

Grabbing critters by the tail must run in your family.

Bob cats in Arkansas seem to have gotten bigger than they use to be. We have a lot of them around but seldom seem unless you catch them on game camera, or deer stand. Be somewhat wary: While I have never be attacked by one has heard several that have over the years.
Raymond, remember they got a really short tail!
