Farm Surveillance System

Postby PVF1799 » Wed Jul 02, 2014 8:39 pm

We'd like to setup a wireless video surveillance system that we can monitor via the internet. We'd place these on the pigs and the turkeys especially while they are young. Regrettably I know NOTHING :lost: when it comes to this kind fof technology.

If you've got experience with a system I'd love to hear from you.

Happy farming, Ken

Talk to neighbor farmers and find out what they are using and how it works. Also talk to your local IT experts.

Not sure about the internet. Probably the system should have it's own monitors and video back up system.

Lot of turkey farmers in this part of Missouri. Pretty sure most have some sort of surveillance system since they have theft losses.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Wow - what a laugh I had this morning - I can't believe I actually typed "we'll place them on the pigs and turkeys". :D :D :D

Update - there are no local farmers - I'm an island in suburbia - We're pretty much the last working farm - spending a lot of our time ensuring they don't change the zoning laws so they can increase the property taxes to make us sell after 215 years.

Ken I recently installed a system for a friend's farm. It is wifi and has camera capability. We used the ayerstone system and I believe this system is very dependable.

Most of your security firms offer this type of service. They like to offer the internet monitoring package for some extra $ a month.

I have an 8-camera surveillance system which is based on a stand-alone DVR. I hardwired everything, because I heard about interference with Wi-Fi, and didn't want to mess it up. My next step is to make it view-able when I'm away, on a computer or phone. When I get that done, I will write again. It even sends an alert message if you have it set to protect certain areas that should not be entered. The recordings are made according to how sensitive I make the settings. Best part is I'm not involved with a security company or monthly fees. When I get this system done, I would be able to be alerted and call the police myself, without monthly fees.

By the way in 61 years we've never had a problem, but why wait until you do have a problem. I was just out there and all the cameras have a red glow in the dark, it's the infra-red and sitting here at my desk I can see my goats sleeping in total darkness!!!

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
