I'm planning a couple of mini hoop structures, to get the stuff established a bit earlier, this year. 10 foot wide poly, over pvc hoops. Not surer how well it will work, but I'll try! Can't stand store bought tomatoes! Need some early ones, and cucumbers, too. to go with my lettuce!

I would love the hoop houses, BUT our 35-50 mph straight line winds wont leave them alone!!! ---Did get a big flat of tomato seeds going here in the south window under a grow light.---Might get the ole cold frame started soon too.--It's only a rr tie set in the ground and a sliding glass door on top .---It does seem to work well, but not real early in the year.
Rain today here and looks like for the most of the week, so garden id on hold!---gotta work on more chainsaws and weed eaters.---also now one of the horse tillers decided that it needs new tine shaft seals!----WHO ever said that your ready to go!!! LOL!!!!---- always something to do! thanks; sonny

I sat out a few cabbage and broccoli plants, and planted some carrots and garden peas about 3 weeks ago. Planted irish taters and sweet corn the 21st--early, but what the hey sometimes you get lucky.

Got a pic. of the onion plants today.

Had to strip till with the troy built horse tiller to get these in before the storm hit!---Now have the trans. belt on the 917, so when it dries up on top I will go between the rows and get the middles chopped up with it! thanks; sonny

Same here. Lengthy rainy period.

Did plant radish, onions, and fill in some bare spots in the strawberry bed. Didn't bother watering the plants, rained that night and almost every day since.

Yesterday, picked my first cutting of asparagus.

Keeping an eye on my apple tree. Very warm period, trees blossomed, hard freeze, very warm period, hard freeze. Not sure my apple tree survived.

Years back, same weather in Iowa. Hard freeze split the bark off the trunk of an ornamental tree.
I have an excuse. CRS.

asparagus here wont show up til mid-late May!---I do LOVE that stuff!---don't have much,--just a few plants that don't produce real well.
Fruit trees here just now starting to bud out.---I need to spray, BUT can't even do that in the rain!!
Our magnolia tree here by the North porch has split it's bark all the way around and has fallen off, so it now is dead, and in a hard place to cut it down! thanks; sonny

Same here, not drying out. More rain in the forecast.

Last couple of days had a short period of sun and no rain in the afternoon. Folks are mowing grass.

3rd cutting of asparagus.

Asparagus. Soil temperature in central Missouri is currently at 55 degrees, some times reaching 60 degrees on sunny days.

Conversation yesterday. Guy was telling me that a relative sold tomatoes in the near by big city farmers market at $3- a pound.

1 1/4 inches of rain, today. Similar forecast, for Thursday. Unless I find a cub with webbed feet, I'm not gardening, for a week or so! I want to set up the mini hoop houses, to start warming the soil, so i can get some early stuff, planted.

We just got 1.5 so far today, not over yet and they say SNOW at 3 am tomorrow! Some peach and plum trees blooming, everything else kinda holding back, well---- cept the WEEDS! gonna have to start mowin!---Too cold for weed killer to work, so that idea will have to wait a while!

Did get about half of the garden that is 1-acre raked and burned last night before the rain came.
Nothing we planted has come up yet. --hope the seeds don't rot! thanks; sonny

40 degrees, and raining, today, again. We'll have the month's average, by weekend! All in one week, is a bit too much! 1 to 2 inches, forecast for today, possible showers, tomorrow!
