Distributor and rotor help

Postby dk47 » Tue Dec 05, 2017 9:40 am

Hello, Somehow the rotor was removed from the distributor without marking the direction of the rotor on the housing. How do I install it making sure it is in the right position. Thanks in advance for your help. Danny

The manual doesn't seem to be any help, is it keyed? I'll look at mine later and get back to you, I just got it home yesterday.

Look at the bottom of the rotor and the distributor shaft. The rotor only fits on the shaft one way.

If you are talking about the distributor being removed and need to correctly replace it, post back.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Turn the engine so that Cylinder #1 is on the compression stroke and at Top Dead Center (TDC).
Remove the distributor cap and rotate the shaft so that the distributor rotor is pointing to 1:00 position.
Install the distributor. This may take a few tries to get it lined up.
Install the distributor cap. Get your timing light connected to the #1 plug wire and some power and start your engine then adjust the timing.

You didn't indicate whether you have a battery ignition (as shown above) or a magneto. With battery ignition, it will only fully engage the shaft in one position, you can't install it wrong. If you have a magneto, it must be properly timed and has marks to do so. The pinion gear has one tooth with a bevel on the end, the rotor has what looks like a casting seam, they must be lined up.

Numbered Cubs didn't come in until 1968.

We need to identify the tractor, serial number, year of manufacture.
