I'm trying to find a carb or rebuild kit for my 154. Serial number dates it a '74 and the engine is marked 351674R1. It has an IH stamped carb. Everything I find says for early 154 engine up to 312389. Am I missing something? Could this IH can not be the original? Any help would be great. I'm trying to get her running good before spring
Thanks!

Re: Post 312389 carb??
So many things happen to a tractor during its life. I wouldn't be surprised if the carb wasn't swapped out while troubleshooting and when the issue went away, they just stuck with the IH carb. More clues would be with the intake. Look at the part number on the intake. An intake designed for use with an IH carb would be a lower revision number. A later design would end in a higher revision number (R2 or R3). Can't find it in the parts manual to be exact.

351 674 R12 is the part number for the front crankcase cover.
IH carb was issued with the 154. Since you have the carburetor, rebuild it. Quality rebuild kits are available from the site sponsors, bottom of page.

Are you having problems with the carburetor?

Thanks all for the responses.
Eugene, that's pretty funny. I am missing something here if I'm using a case number as my engine number!
Is be happy to rebuild it but I still have been running into the issue of all the kits saying they are for early model 154, and I know mine was in the last years before going 185. No that I'm not focused on the wrong numbers I should be able to find something
Don. I am having trouble with it. The needle sticks every once in a while (drops had out of carb when off) and it doesn't run as strong as I think it can. I've cleaned the carb and that helped but I rtv'd the gasket and it needs replacing. So I figured I need to go all the way
Outdoors 4 ever. Thanks for three insight. Who knows what had been done to it since '74. I can tell by the paint marks it had a loader at one point (wish it still did!) But I will check the intake.

Re: Post 312389 carb??
If it were me, I wouldn't buy the complete kit for $40+. There are lots of parts included that you won't need or use. I would remove the carb and completely disassemble it. Check the float for leakage by immersing it in hot water. If it releases bubbles, it's a leaker and should be repaired or replaced. Set the float according to the drawing below. Note that the float height is measured without the gasket in place. Examine the needle and seat. If the needle is Viton tipped, I would replace it with a new steel needle and seat. Most, if not all, of the kits have the Viton tipped needle in them. Determine what parts and gaskets that you really need and order them from TM Tractor Parts or McDonald Carb & Ignition.
Also, don't assume that a weak running engine is due to carburetor issues. A complete tune-up and valve adjust could be all that is needed.

Thanks for the great info Eugene. I'll follow up after I do the carb. I've done the plugs wires points and condenser. I've thought about the valve adjustment. I know something is up with the carb so I'm going to start there

Since you are doing a tune up, start with compression tests.

Adjust the valves while the carb is off. Much easier.
