154 lo boy carb issue

Postby Randomcubguy » Sun May 17, 2020 8:19 am

I just recently bought a 70 lo boy at auction. It runs well but only at 3/4 choke. Also there is a fair bit of blowby coming out of the blow by. First question, should I rebuild carb or is it a simple adjustment fix. I only see an idle adjustment screw on carb. Second, is there a rebuild in my near future to solve blowby issue? I paid 800$ for it so not afraid to put a little into it as they are going for 2500+ around me online. Any other suggestions for me to look at or do while I’m at it? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure the type of carb you have. The idle problem could simply be a clogged metering jet on the side of the carb.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Welcome.

Resolve the carb issues, then do a 100% tune up and fluid change.

Seafoam in the fuel and crankcase. Operate the tractor for quite some time. See what happens with the blow by.
