Cub 154, 184 LoBoy Spindles

Wed Jun 06, 2007 7:38 am

I just bought an International 1050A loader for my 184 LoBoy :D so I bought the operators manual from our local dealer. The manual talks about "Heavy Duty" spindles that were part of the loader package from International. My question is, can any one tell me what the difference is between the factory spindles and the "Heavy Duty" spindles? :?:

Thanks,
Brian

Brian,
I just checked the spindle size on my 184 and it is 1 inch diameter.
I would guess the HD spindles may be 1 1/8 inch but not sure. I looked in my parts catalog and did not find any mention of the optional spindle. If you have an IH dealer near by maybe they can help.

I think the HD spindles would be only reinforced were the bend is. I plan on taking either 3/16" or 1/4" plate and fabricate two aggussets for both sides of that bend and weld it up so the bent 1" rod can't bend anymore with the added weight of the front loader.

I seen a cub cadet 147 with a front loader and it bends exactly at that point were the spindle is bent. So i'm sure thats the problem with the 154/184 spindles too. Its not the diameter of the shaft its the bend with no reinforcement added.

Thanks Guys! :) I talked with the good folks at JP Tractors and I guess the difference is some of the 154's came with hubs like on a riding lawnmower (Single center bolt that holds the hub on) and the HD spindles were made for hubs with bearings and use a 5 bolt wheel. I do think I am going to gusset the spindle at the bend as well. Just a little added protection.

Larry, Your 184 probably already has the 5 lug wheel like mine?

Thanks again,
Brian

Brian,
Yes you are right. I have 4 184's and they all have the 5 lug wheels and they have bearings instead of bushings.
