Looking at a 154 Loboy the starter is running in reverse direction. How is this possible, and what would the fix be?

running in reverse direction
I take it that when you go to start the engine, it is turning the wrong direction :?: If that's the case, sounds like the wiring could be backwards. Do some search's in the Forum as some of these starters/generators turn CW or CCW. Depends on the model/year of production. It may be turning the correct way after all.

The engine is pulling air through the muffler and exhausting through the carb, it's definitely running in reverse.

Are you sure you have the right starter / generator?

Probably has a s/g from a Cub Cadet. They turn the wrong way for a 154.

Ditto: Seems to be a lot of posts similar to this area lately. These type of problems seem to start cropping up around the time of tractor shows and tractor gatherings. You think that someone is "Sabotaging" folks tractors so they can sell them parts at all the shows

I would agree with the posts above. However we know nothing of it's past , did you just buy this tractor? or just buy the starter? or maybe you took it apart and put new brushes in and now you have this problem. I you did. you reversed the feild.

I remember seeing people setting polarity on generators after rebuilding them. Maybe that is all you have to do. Even though I still have 2 generator cars and 1 tractor, i have not had to do this in 30 years.

And trying to destroy itself! The oil pump was running backward too.
