I knew it had to be something simple, since the engine is so basic to begin with. Sucks that it took so much effort to find out, but in the end, you have basically gone through the whole ignition and fuel system, so that 184 should be running in top shape for a long time. Congratulations, Rick. Glad it was so simple, after all. And what a great thread for newbies (and oldies who forget in the middle of the battle) on how to diagnose in a methodical manner, and eliminate causes.
