154 Starter Generator Question

Hi - I was trying to work my way through the generator / regulator flowchart on Rudi's website and I have a dumb question.

http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Maintenance%20Tips%20and%20Techniques/Generator%20and%20Regulator%20Troubleshooting%20Flow%20Chart.jpg

As you progress through the tree, do you keep adding jumpers, ie after step 2, do you keep that jumper there and then add the next jumper?

The reason I'm asking is that I've been measuring the voltage at the armature terminal back to battery ground and the voltage decreases from around 3 volts at idle to almost 0 at full speed. I have polarized the generator, even though I suspect it does it each time since it is a starter/ generator.

Perhaps I just ended up with a dog of a new starter/generator but I can't figure out why voltage would seem to drop with an increase of RPMS?

Thanks - Lance

Could have a stuck brush spring which would cause the brushe to float away from the armature at high speed. Just a thought. Could even have a bum regulator too, which I would say is possibly the culprit :D :D

Thanks Podge - I just so happen to have a new regulator that my wife just picked up. I'll give that a shot tomorrow, since it looks like my deer hunting might get rained out tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for the advice. Please keep your fingers crossed.

Podge - You were right on the money. New regulator did the trick. Thanks again - Lance.
