OK - we bought the farm last year & I had to have a tractor. Rojito joined us a week after we moved in. He is a '49 cub high crop. Lots of fun & just what I wanted, almost.
We have many many many mature trees on our land - in fact we have very little sunlight that hits the ground. The Previous owner cut all the trees branches up so he could mow under them with his rider. My cub however is tall & I get branches in my face at every tree (30 or more).
I don't want to cut any more branches, I don't like the look of a tree skinned 10 feet off the ground (especially evergreens). Which brings me to my question, what year of lowboys have the rounded hood look like my '49, and how much shorter are they?
I might be looking to swap out for a lowboy if I can still have that cool 'Old tractor' look.

Re: Lowboy questions!
I use a Cub Cadet 105 (hydrostat) to mow under trees in a future walnut plantation.
I have an excuse. CRS.

The most helpful will be the Lo-Boy's underslung exhaust. The basic tractor is 7 1/2" lower.

I like to use my cub cadets in the tighter lower branch sections and my int154 cub for the open areas.
Watch out for that bird feeder too!!!!!! I had an accident with one of those large plate feeders(stone) that was just above eye level, i was watching the tractor tires and not looking up when it hit me. ouch..... Low branches can hurt too i've been there.

Just measured 3 Cubs to the top of the steering wheel.
Reg Cub 64 in
Loboy 57 in
185 Cub 49 in [wide profile tires, may be slightly different with 24 in tires}
If you are looking for low profile the numbered Cubs have the edge.

The 13.6 x 16 turf tires on the 154/185/184 are a little taller than my 8.3x24 turf tires are. I noticed this when i first put on the 13.6's I had to go higher with the jack after i took off the 8,3's. Not much maybe 2" or less. Both sets have great thread so one is more worn than the other. Its an honest comparison.

Re: Lowboy questions!
Thanks guys - I have a guy coming tomorrow to try to talk me out of my cub. I think every time he makes an offer I'm going to add $50 to the price.
What do you guys think about the new cadet tractors? Like the 5252? I saw one the other day with a 3 point hitch & a 60 inch mower. Boy did that look nice. ROPS too.
