transmission issues; shifting problems on a 1971 154

hey all starting to redo my 154 and i am having a problem with the transmission shifting through all the gears, i know i probably need to look at the shift forks but what engages those? and what else should i look for/ i am a newbie at this stuff, any info appreciated, thanks.

Ill give it a shot and suggest that you check the shift lever and see if it has broke loose from the cup inside the shifter housing.

Also there is a ball on the end of the shifter that engages the slots in the shifter forks it could be bent or the top of the fork could be broke.

Without knowing what your shifting problem is that is were I would start.

Pull the shifter cover for inspection.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
