Where is a good place to get a PTO clutch pack rebuild kit for a 154 CUB? I have some play in mine and it appears to be adjusted as far as I can go. Bearings are ok but clutches look pretty worn. It does engage and holds up under load but is rattles a bit when disengaged.

Your gonna hate me for postin this!!!!-----There is not a REAL good place to get the kit,--BUT my local IH dealer had them in stock!

OK,---here is the painful part!-----A complete NEW unit is $1,600.---A used unit from e-bay was around $600 or so and the disk kit from IH was $260. last spring, and really dont have all the parts that might be needed!--I need the outer bell that all the goodies go into, (not included in kit)

This clutch can be used as either wet or dry applications.
Kit contains; pressure plates, seperator springs, (the wavy washers), shims,and snap ring!
If other parts are needed they say to buy the $1,600 unit, as the re-building is no longer pratical!

Thanks for the reply, looks like i'll be machining some parts then or modifying something to fit.

If anyone has any ideas on how to modify the pto on these tractors,--- PLEASE help us po' folks who have non-working clutches and cant afford the new ones!!! ---at this point I dont care if its a live pto,---I just want one that will run the mower,---thats all I got this tractor to do and now it wont even do that! thanks ;sonny

I have torn mine down and it's a bit worn but I think I have some room for adjustment left it does not look like its ever been messed with nothing broken or badly worn just an annoying rattle when not engaged and you can see the plates dancing around in there. It would help if I knew exactly what I was doing. Found a copy of the factory service manual so i have some reading to do. For the prices I have seen for a clutch pack kit I will fabricate them if I have too. If any body has any tips on this i would be glad to know them.

One of mine went south too in the fall. The clutch plates look like new but it won't stay engaged now it kicks out. Just one more thing on my list to fix.

My plates/disks look really good too and really all I need right now to fix mine is the wavy washers, (thats the springy ones) and maybe a couple of shims, plus something to use for a snapring to hold all the S---on the shaft!---Cant find a substitute for the wavy dudes!--snapring could be easily subed. for!--I am still thinking as well as looking for something to get the tractor back in service!---If nothing can be found,-- then I will have to junk the tractor, as it is of no use to me!---cant do any serious work with it, geared too fast to even pull the tater planter, and not hydro like the 147cadet, (which will out pull the 185)!
I have considered the possible idea of getting rid of the sloppy MASTER clutch and putting in a hydro motor and mount pump on the flywheel of engine to make a hyd. drive out of it then it would be a great little tractor!---BUT the banker says no for now on any more money wasted on the 185, so it sits half torn down!--still have a bad hyd leak from somewhere up behind the master clutch and I cant find it!--I think its from around the plate over the shaft below the master input shaft.---still havent given totaly up on the thing as its one I can drive in comfort,(or could when it was running).
I think the biggest problem is going to be finding something to use for springs between the plates,--as that is what the wavy dudes are for! thanks; sonny

If you have a local "bearings and drives" place I'd check there, chances are they will be half the price of McMaster Carr and 1/10 the price of a tractor dealer.
Alterernatly you could use an electric pto clutch off a lawn tractor, Needs some modification but done right might be a better long term solution than going original equip.

Thanks for the replys. I took mine apart and cleaned and re-adjusted everything. Got rid of the rattling for now. Clutch plates were way to loose. We'll see what happens when i try to mow it might even be a little too tight now but am going to see what happens in the spring. I like the idea of using an electric clutch. I would be interested if anybody has pictures of how they did that.

PS - why can't you just take the worn clutch plates to a good "Clutch and Brake" rebuilding service (usually heavy equipment and trucks) and have them just replace the worn friction material? Now-a-days, with the better materials they just bond (glue) the new friction materials right to the metal carrier plates.
