the repair list grows. I notice lube leaking out of steering box, the leak comes from shaft out the side of the steering gear assembly , and leaks out of the top of gear assembly ,where steering shaft tube fits . are seals available, or steering assembly parts, looks like I will need a steering wheel as well. thanks Jim

Yeah JG, those upper and lower shaft seals are readily available. The lower one is a bit more work, but it's worth replacing both. Standard sockets can be used to seat seals.

What is the new part number, or a cross-reference for the oil seal for the pitman arm shaft, 257842C91 (part #7 on the exploded parts diagram)? According to Case IH it has been superseded, but there is no new number. A search does not bring up much info, and the SKF cross reference chart does not list this number.

According to Messick's web site, that is still a good number.

Thanks; yes, I did see that as well, but was hoping there was a more readily available cross reference. The Cub Cadet site as well as a few other IH dealer sites showed the seal as not available. I will try to order one from Messick's. Suppose I could also measure the old seal and try to find a suitable match, dimensionally.
