New to me a Cub Lo Boy 154

Postby al b 154 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 1:10 pm

Hello from CT.
I just got a Lo Boy 154,5' deck and 54" plow. :D #018xxx, looks like made in 1970. It had cooked wire on the regulator GEN post to the A terminal on the starter. It runs but I don't think it is charging. Is it + ground or - ground? I read somewhere it is + ground but this one is - ground, I'm confused.Maybe I need to polarize the system but I just don't know. :?:

The 154's are 12 volt negative ground. They use a combination starter / generator.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

If it is the starter/generator setup, chances are that you need a voltage regulator. That is the most typical problem or cause of not charging. There is a diagnostic test that is pretty straight forward to do, but I cannot remember it now. I'm sure that someone on here can provide it.

Image to Farmallcub.com :big smile: Forum Family. And you have come to the right place for all things Cub related. If you click on the Site Rules, Regulations, & Important Information, it will point you to  the Welcome Wagon wherein you will find links to many useful sites and topics. One of which is the Cub Manual Server. Enjoy!.

And for the 154 owner - Number Series Cubs where you can find the Cub-154 Lo-Boy - Owner's Manual and the TC-131 Parts Catalog Revision 8. Hope those will be of use. Oh yeah, I do not have a Lo-Boy Service Manual for the 154, but there is a IH-38 1974 Edition Complete Service Manual that should cover the Starter/Generator.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I got the charging system working now I'm going to work on the drive shaft. It's loose on the front pulley and by the clutch.I have to take it apart and see what it looks like.
