How can I tell if my hydraulic pump is small or large on 154 serial # 2000112U 035832.
What is the difference in GPM between the pumps. I want to operate a small loader and was hoping to avoid adding a PTO pump. Are the small & large pumps interchangeable?
Thanks, Matt

Re: 154 Low Boy Hydraulics
Matt,
I do not believe there is a difference in hydraulic pumps in any of the numbered lo-boy tractors. Some of the very early 154 tractors did not have hydraulics, and only had a manual lift lever, like the manual Cub Cadet tractors. Other than those very early 154 tractors, all of the number series tractors had hydraulic lift, and I believe that all of the pumps are the same. Additionally, IH offered a hydraulic loader for the lo-boy tractors, so I would guess that you will be fine running one on yours.
The bigger problem with the lo-boys is that they are pretty easy to overload with the weight of the front loader, counter weight, wheel weights, etc., and since you only have about 15-hp to start with, you can easily end up with a tractor that has little power. I know that I have a brand new 27-hp diesel sub-compact, comparable in size to a lo-boy, and the loader is a real workout on it. Just a word of caution.

Matt,Bill, here's an older quote from Clark, I'm not sure if it's correct or not, but do remember seeing a different style pump that still bolted in the same place.
Maybe Jim Becker has some additional imformation,
Rick

if I remember right the farmall cub pump puts out 1500 lbs of pressure. it is capable of 2.2 gallon per minute. the 154 pump is a bendix pump. it is different from the farmall cub pump. it is a 3.9 gal per minute pump and pumps 1500 lb of pressure.
If you raise the releif spring tension you can get any pressure you desire till the shaft twist off or the cam gear shatters. I have had a few in the last 30 years that the releif valve was stuck shut. twisted the shaft off the pump. I think 1500 lbs is a safe running pressure. My loader cub will lift its own weight at 1500 lbs of pressure.
Maybe Jim Becker has some additional imformation,
Rick

Re: 154 Low Boy Hydraulics
Looking at the parts manual on Rudi's server it shows 3 different pn possibilties. The first 2 are Warner Motive pumps and the second is a Cessna pump. Seems very possible you could have at least 2 different displacements.

Re: 154 Low Boy Hydraulics
Here are pictures of the two pumps that were used on the numbered loboys. One was manufactured by Warner and the other by Cessna. They were commonly referred to as the "Large" and the "Small" pumps. I do not know the gallonage of each or if there is a difference. If anyone can match "Warner" to "Large" or "Small", please chime in.
