3260 mowing deck

Postby arthurpbloom » Tue May 11, 2010 8:29 pm

A few questions from a confused new forum member:

My mowing deck, which I thought was a 3260, does not look exactly like the one in the link above.

It has two idler pulleys on the rear of the tractor, but the right one is fixed and the left one has a torsion spring tensioner.

My deck has a horizontal (approx 8" long) coil spring tensioner, which operates against the idler pulley near the rear of the deck. The one in the link shows a coil tensioner on a pulley near the front of the deck.

The way I determined (I thought) that mine was a 3260 was by cross-referencing the model number from the main drive belt, (492102-R1) which took me to an IH parts dealer site that listed the belt as being used on a 3260 deck.

Are there more than one variation of the 3260? Can anyone tell me exactly which one I have, because I need to order spindle parts, over the phone, and I need to be sure I'm ordering the right stuff for the right deck.

Also, when buying tune up parts (cap, rotor, points, oil filter, etc) does NAPA have them? My nearest IH-Case dealer is 150 miles away. Can anyone recommend a knowledgeable and reliable mail order dealer for these parts?

Thank you in advance for any answers you can give me.

Arthur,

Welcome!

Some pictures of your mower would probably help the "experts" answer your questions faster.

Many parts are available at NAPA or other parts stores, cross reference avilable in the FAQ's.

TM Tractor parts (site sponsor) would be a great source for new parts, great people, fast service and fair prices. :big afro:

Ralphs (also site sponsor) good resource for used parts.

Good luck,
David

Welcome arthur! Yes, there are two versions of the 3260 deck, but all I know about it is that one uses a single, long belt, while the other uses 2 belts. The early version is 3260, with the later being 3260A. Perhaps one of the other members can be more help than me.

Yes, you can get tune-up parts from NAPA. While TM Tractor doesn't really handle parts for the number series tractors, tune up parts are the same as the Cub, so they can help you with those. Great folks with great service!

Does yours have a serial number plate on the left hand side of the deck? My 3260 has two springs, one on the deck and yes mine is towards the front of the deck. The other one is on the left hand side of the idler pulley setup for tension for the longer of the two belts. The right idler pulley slides up and down in a slot for adjustment due to belt stretching.

This is also a 3160 mower as well. A picture sure would help in figuring out what you have.

Thanks for the info. There is a plate riveted to the left side of the deck, but the numbers are unreadable. I believe that the horizontal tension spring is an after-market addition. I have the two pulleys at the rear, one of which is adjustable, and the other has a tensioner spring. I think it's a 3260.

Sounds like you may have the same one I've got...a 3260A. I talked with Joe at Hamiltonbobs on Ebay and he I.D.'d mine as the "A" version. I guess they are somewhat rare but are really good decks. They don't run across many of them at Hamiltonbobs. Some parts should be interchangeable I would think...spindles maybe? Pics would help
