My friend is looking for a 184 or 185 engine to put in his '63 loboy for some increased HP. What are the pros and cons on the switch? Will this just bolt right in? What changes will have to be made?

It should be a direct bolt up, and not that big of a deal. However, his 63 lo-boy engine could be bored out and re-built probably for about the same cost as the engine out of a 184, and he would still have an original tractor. If his engine was freshened up, it should have plenty of power, and not that much less than the 184 engine. He may even be able to get more hp out of it if he has someone who really knows these engines. Ralph and some others on here have a few tricks to bump up the power.

If I recall correctly the crankshaft of the 184 / 185 engines is not bored for the clutch pilot bushing. There are some other issues I believe but I don't recall just what all was involved. George Willer did this some time back it an engine from a 154.
