Clutch Brake Buttons Replacement

Does one have to split the tractor and take out the clutch to replace clutch brake buttons on a Cub 154? I took the shields off but cannot pound out the key for the drive shaft to split the tractor. I can see the bolts to the piece that holds the clutch brake buttons but seems impossible to get wrench on them. Any suggestions

I'm not near my manual but I don't think so. You can move the engine about 2" forward and slide the clutch/pressure plate out from there and then get to it but I don't think it takes even that much. I'll check the book and let you know unless someone else cuts in ahead of me.

Any ideas on how to get the pin out that is in the drive shaft near the fly wheel?

Mine actually fell out when least expected. If it's that tight just get some penetrating fluid, stop the bolt at the 1200 o'clock position and soak it down good. It should loosen up after about 24 hours. If not, turn it 180 degrees and soak it again. I've used an impact hammer or rivet gun to break bolts like that loose before. Just don't hammer it too hard. Wouldn't want to crack anything. Just make sure you have a couple of nuts on the end where you hammer so you won't smash it down and make it impossible to get out of the hole. I'm sure there are several more ways to get it out. Your actually lucky it's tight. That's just one less part to replace.
