I bought a used grille for my lo boy on ebay and got boned bad. It was advertised only as used. I inquired of the seller as to specific condition and he said it was useable as is and the lower part had been repaired with a metal patch. When I got it, The whole lower part was a few pieces of crushed fiberglass pop riveted to a tin back and sides. Thats when I realized why the photos were blurry in the ad.
That brings me to the point. I tried to find repro grilles to no avail and got thinking, My wife and I both worked some with fiber glass repair and molding in the 60's, so if we could determine how much interest there was, maybe we'd make up the molds and make some for sale. We checked out repro grilles for 30's cars and they seem to start about $216, with most around $240 and up. Any of your thoughts and comments about this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Smiley

Re: Repro lo boy grilles
I guess you are talking about a number series cub like a 154 185 or 184? If so I have never seen a repo for them. not that much interest I guess.
If it is a true Lo boy Cub there are repos for the early wire and multi bar grilles, The 4 bar is still available from case / IH I think

Re: Repro lo boy grille shells
I saw the repro bar and mesh inserts for the 154-85 but I'm talking about the fiberglass outer shells. We also thought about making upper and lower halves so anyone could repair their own. If there isn't much interest, we'll just piece together the 2 we have for our 154.

Re: Repro lo boy grilles
If you make up the mold I would definitely advertise them for sale. Every 154 that I have ever seen needs a new one, and no, you cannot find replacements. I would have gladly paid $200 for a good replacement, if I could have found one, instead, I spent $50 in fiberglass repair kits and made them work, not pretty, but they did hold together. I don't have the tractor any longer. Right now I know of two or three people looking for them, so I would say that there are lots more.

As Bill said, there seems to be a market.. an untapped one at the moment. If you choose to do this, I can add you to the Specialty Services pages of the Manual Server.. might generate some interest. Let us know.

I know I could have used one. I recently took a week to rebuild the one that came with my 185. It was crumbled and in pieces. Its not perfect, but it looks fine. $150 might be a fair price.

Re: Repro lo boy grilles
Someone was offering a new repro grill outer frame on ebay a while back, they were making new ones.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

I'll have to put a watch on that to see if it's worth bothering to make them.

Yes, Ray Weaver advertises them in Red Power. I think he is asking $250.00 for them. Ted

Re: Repro lo boy grilles
I have bought a reproduction 154 grille. I can't remember now from who, but it was very nice, good fit, just a tad over $200 if I remember correctly. I believe it was from someone over on the "yahoo groups" lowboy forum. Wengers has them listed on their site for $265, but currently out of stock.
