just installed petronix ignition (review)Just installed this ignition in my distributor. I have a 70 (I think) lo boy 154 with a loader bucket setup I use for snowplowing. Easy install (did it without removing the distributor) and holy cow this thing runs better!! Much more torque!! New chains are at the top of the priority list now!! Before the pertronix the tractor had a fresh cap & rotor, points and condensor, plugs and wires installed a year or so ago, very little run time. It cold here, and cold starts on the choke no longer create a little puff of black smoke like they used to. The tractor runs smoother and even sounds a little throatier. I got it from yesterdays tractor fo $70. A great upgrade!!
Re: just installed petronix ignition (review)I have considered installing one next time I need to work on an ignition system and was wondering if you had an 'after' picture. (I can post it for you if you want) I was mostly curious how different it looks from original. Good to know that it can be done without removing the dist.

Re: just installed petronix ignition (review)Quick question. Does the conversion require a Petronix cap & rotor? If so, was it included for that price?
Re: just installed petronix ignition (review)does not require a new cap and rotor, just replaces point and condensor with a magnetic pickup. I will get you a picture buzzard, externally the only difference is two wires out of the distributor instead of one.
Re: just installed petronix ignition (review)Yes, it can be installed with the dist. still in place but I find it's easier to remove it. It only takes a few minutes to R & R and it's a lot easier to get those little screws in.
Re: just installed petronix ignition (review)Real easy to install. instructions are very easy tto follow. Can be done with distrubitor
in tractor. I have two installed, one in cub other in lo-boy. Sure has eliminated all my ignition problems. To bad the don't work with a mag. Best mod one can do to a cub. 1- 1950 cub
