Try "hand held tachometer" on eBay. There are several kinds listed.

Ricky, do you use it and like how it works?
Bob, I just did a ebay search, and found 4 or 5 vintage Stewart Warner 757w model tachs . They do get $$ I see. Thanks,Jim

Jim:
I have a 727W. Got it for $19.00 on
At the moment the three 727Ws are a bit pricey .. sheeshhhh now that is an understatement .. $100.00 is a bit much. There are always a bunch of them on
though. Keep watching they will pop up. There are a couple other types as well but the 727W is probably the neatest.

Thanks Rudi and Bob. I may consider that harbor freight tach, while keeping my eye open on ebay for a Stewart Warner 757 tach. The Harbor freight price is good, and looks like good reviews . Thanks , Jim

Along with the Stewart Warner tach, A C also made a hand held mechanical tach. I have one of those and it works quite well. it sounds like the price of the S W has gotten a bit out of line, I used to find them at swap meets & such for $25 -$30 routinely.

I think mine is an AC. I'll have to look when I get home from work.

Yep, it's an AC. Works very well. I used it to check the engine RPM after rebuilding my '53.

Ricky , that is very cool ! I placed a bid on ebay, and that lasted all of 15 min, till I was out bid.....looks like these little hand held contact tachometers bring big $$. I received feed back from a Guy that sold one for 175.00 2 weeks ago . Hang onto that Gem ! thanks,Jim

No! A C Delco. I lucked out on mine, I bought a box of Coleman lanterns from a guy and it was in the bottom of the box, still in the original tube. I'm sure it meant nothing to him.

Hey.. I did say I was a tool junkie
These are completed auctions and they all averaged at less than $28.00Cdn each. Very fair price indeed.

Rudi, have to agree The AC would be a nice one o have. I currently do not have a bid in on ebay, the stewart warner auction is up to 65.00 with 1 day to go. Looks like the last ones went for 100.00 or better. Jim
