Are there any tips (or a Cliff Notes version) for adjusting the IPTO on a Cub 154. Mine is too tight and the pto continues to run after the pto is supposed to be disengaged. I do have the service manual but from experience I know that service manuals do not tell everything on working on 40+ year old tractors (mine is a 1969 Cub 154).
Thanks

In this case, the manual will cover you pretty well. You'll need to adjust the clutch plate clearance. Be aware, though, you may have warped clutch plates causing the problem.

What year 154? The PTO clutches were slightly different. If it is an early clutch style, it will have a threaded adjustment nut on the front end of the clutch shaft, this may have come loose and over tightened the clutch. Not much will cause the clutch to not release other than lots of rust, jamming of the clutch pack, loose adjustment nut, bad cam bearings. You just need to remove from the tractor, 30 minute job, and look at the clutch. The link below should help, the manual is not all that great for the PTO clutch operation and troubleshooting. http://www.farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60650
