Hi, I am a new Lowboy owner, and wanted to check in here with you guys. I just purchased a model 154 from an older gentleman who could not use it. He has not used it in several years.Looks presentable, and It came with a cozy cab with lights and wiper, rear wheel weights, chains, 60" deck, front blade, and has a creeper gear, three point and pto. I paid $1200.00 for everything. I went over to his house Fri., with a fresh battery and a gallon of gas, cleaned the points, they look new, and she fired right us and ran smooth. Hydraulics worked well too. I will take some pics when I go over with a trailer to bring her home. Whattya think? Did I do good??? :{_}:

for $1,200.00 :?: Nah you didn't do good, you done great :!: :D What a nice price 8) As long as the PO was happy with the price and I guess you obviously are, then all is perfect :applause: Image

I don't have a lot of stuff on the server for the Numbered Cubs, but the 154 is what I have the most of. Suggest you follow the links below as we have a lot of resources available for our members:

Well,

I got the new to me 154 home yesterday, and she seems to run well. I have found that she has a ring gear flywheel with standard style starter and a one wire alternator. All zerks took grease ok, and the drive shaft has bolts, not roll pins. Wiring has been sorta replaced, but not real professionally. Hydraulics work well. Tire chains are mismatched, but should work ok. Lights need repaired. Mower deck is solid and spindles spin free. Need to get a few replacement parts, but I am pretty happy with my purchase. :D

You did very well. The accessories you mentioned (cab etc.) will almost meet your purchase price. The modification to standard starter and ring gear is a big plus in my book as will be the alternator.
Fix what needs fixing and clean up the work already done and you will have a good serviceable tractor with some great options.

Thanks BigDog,
I washed the ol girl off yesterday, and she cleaned up pretty well. To my surprise, a great deal of the oxidation on the yellow came off and now she looks presentable. Now I need to pull off the cab so that I can get into the dash to fix the lights and whatever else so I will be ready for snow.YeeHaw.

I'd say that you did excellent. Someone took really good care of that machine! You don't see many of those tractors, still in original paint and decals, all of the parts and pieces there, a good fiberglass grill surround, and with some good upgrades. Those just don't come along often at all.

Had not thought of it that way. She really is a survivor in those terms. Makes me think twice about re-painting her. LOL. Also, looking up the serial number, looks to be a 1969 model.

Wanted to post an update. Pulled the cab to repair the lights. Repaired some improper hardware, greased everything, freed up the three point pivot balls that were stuck from sitting. She runs quite well for her age, and the only problem I have found so far is the rear cylinder bleeds down quickly when there is a load on. Also, when I sandblasted the hood, I found a lot of pin holes from rust, so I need a new hood. Here are a couple of pics.
