Farmall Cub

Hi,

I've been looking for a while and finally found a good deal on a 154 with the following options/implements:

-3-point hitch
-Johnson loader
-48" IH grader blade
-60" unmarked grader blade
-3-point cart/platform
-Woods F35 60" belly mower

There were obviously some bits missing to mount the mower, but I got it anyway. Some research indicates that the missing parts are a bit more $$ than I expected as well as difficult to find. So, I'm considering getting a 3-point finish mower--does anyone have experience, suggestions or advice regarding any particular make/model I should consider?

Welcome to the Forum, Make a list of the needed parts and post it on the For Sale/Wanted Forum. You may find another Cubber that has what you need. If you haven't already, contact HamiltonBobsCubs (sponsor with link at the bottom of the page), they are a good source of numbered LoBoy parts and may also have what you need used.

Keep in mind that most any 3 point finish mower you find, will be set up for a standard 540 RPM, clockwise rotation PTO, so for a mower to work on your 154, it will have to be Cub specific or self powered.
I agree with Bob, check with Hamilton Bob and see if he can dig up the pieces you need.

You'll never find a 3-point hitch mower to work on the 154. VERY few were ever made since probably 95% of all the 154/185/184 tractors were sold with belly mowers.

Look up the owners manuals for the mower you have, and get a list together of parts you need. Place the list on the Wanted section of the forum as suggested previously. Also, keep in mind, most of those mounting parts are just drilled bar stock steel, and can be easily fabricated. If you can't find the actual part, someone may be able to give you exact dimensions (from their own piece) and you can fabricate or have one fabricated. The mowers for these tractors are really simple, as is the mounting hardware, so fabricating the parts is usually not too tricky. I've repaired/replaced many of the mounting parts, and there's not much to it.

Tractordad on this forum had a Woods RM59 3-point mower all setup for a numbered loboy. Might want to send him a PM and see if he still has it for sale.

Can't help with the mower but it would be nice to see photos of the loader.

I agree with Bill in that a LOT of mounting parts can be made, so start laying out the parts and post what you have/dont have!---PICS. ALWAYS help id. some of the subject too, so dont be afraid to post plenty so members can see exactly what you have/need!
My 185 has some sort of woods under it and it is in working order if that will help any!(just got this unit a month or so ago)---can take pics and see what number it is for sure!---When I got it home I just dumped it in the shed, as the weather was getting bad here and I needed the trailer to haul some big stuff to the shed! thanks; sonny

Thanks for the info/advice guys. I did check Hamilton Bob's catalog--no luck there, I'll try contacting them. However, the Woods F35 does not appear to have ever been intended to fit the 154. The serial number tracks to a fit for a 235--made by Mitsubishi, I think--so I don't know exactly what is missing.

I know there is some sort of rear sub-frame that an electric clutch would mount on, as well as some pulleys that would change the belt orientation by 90 degrees. That is aside from the framework that would hang the mower... So, it was probably tabbed from some combination of parts.

Anyway, it also looks like whatever the mounting may have been, it wood have interfered with the 3-point hitch, hydraulic pump and loader sub-frame which is why I was thinking 3-point mower. I guess I want to have my cake and eat it too.

I'll check with TractorDad, but I was actually starting to consider fooling with this F35 deck by adding a 3-point frame and dedicated motor. I'll get some photos posted soon.

I did a little checking around and it appears that the F35 mower was actually made for the Mitsubishi/IH compact tractors. It is a VERY nice mower. However, it was built to operate on standard 540 rpm power take off at standard rotation, and will not work at the LoBoy's PTO speed of 1000 rpm and opposite rotation.

You might just list it for sale, as it appears that it would work on many of the compact diesel tractors. If it's in really good shape, you may even check with a local Woods dealer to see if they'll trade for the correct mower for your tractor. The F-35 is pretty expensive, as all of the Woods products are, but you might get lucky.

May I ask what your intentions are for the mower?

I think you will find that the three point/rear mounted mowers are normally used for "rough mowing" or brush hogging; if you are planning to do "fine mowing" (up by the house or mowing the lawn) you might actually be happier with a belly mounted configuration.

As far as mowing goes, I'll be mowing about 2 acres. It's somewhere between lawn and field--I was planning on using a finish mower of some type, there are no rocks or uneven areas.
