I've looked through the manual and I cant find this one Maybe I just over looked it.
I was going over a 154 that I'm fixing to part out and just for laughs I thought why not try to crank it.
It has plenty of oil and other fluids so I hooked a battery to it and it clicked like a bad solenoid.
The oil light came on and then started flashing like it was sending Morris code.
Did I miss this in the manual some where? Before I part it out it would be nice to know if it run.

Short answer, prime the oil pump or check to see if oil is being pumped into oil filter housing. Oil pressure won't come up until engine runs for a few seconds.

Probably an aftermarket bulb with a built-in flasher. Look at this page and scroll down to "Smarter Idiot Light!"http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/catalog.cgi?function=goto&catalog=MAIN§ion=MAIN&page=92

thanks for all the help guys and having patience with a newbie.
I'm going to try a solenoid and see if that will get it going before I start tare down.
I dont know if it runs or not my plans were to tare it down sell the parts I dont need for my 185 and scrap the frame.

Take a look at the 185's wiring diagram. The oil indicator light and oil pressure switch are wired into (actually a sub circuit of) the ignition circuit. So, the oil indicator light will more than likely flash as the ignition points open and close. Also, the tractor will not start until oil pressure light is extinguished - oil pressure comes up enough to open the circuit.

You've really got my curiosity up now. I don't know why the PO parked the tractor. The oil looks new. I'm wondering if it had a oil pumping problem or a electrical problem or what. The wires have all been hacked up. It looks like it was wired by Freddy Kruger. I'd like to hear it run again but if not at least I'm not out anything since I didn't pay any thing for the tractor.

This is normal operation for a 184, not sure but the 185 might be the same.
Turn key on, oil light flashes (1/2 second on, 1/2 second off). Crank Engine, When oil pressure comes up, light quits flashing and turns off. If oil pressure drops, light goes back to flashing.

154 and 185 parts diagram shows the "oil tellite flasher" as lamp no. 257, 12 volt.
Looked up GE 257 bulb on internet. Still available, but appears not to be stocked in some or most auto parts stores.

Then hook a wire to the hot side of the coil and hook it to the battery then jump across the solenoid and crank her up may be a good motor. Some people junk stuff over ignorance.
