154 shifter slop

Postby 64/67lo-boy » Sun Feb 02, 2014 12:37 pm

Nice and sunny today so I thought I would check into the sloppy shifter on the 154. It would go into all the gears ok but it did not have the traditional feel of the H pattern. Here is what I found. Stack of spacers were inside between cup and houseing, internal cup and shift rod show signes of weld and grinding.

The shifter can be repaired, but use care when welding to ensure that it is exactly lined up so that the shifter won't hit the sheet metal when everything is reassembled.

Thats the ticket Ray, make sure its lined up. Took alot to get that little cup positioned just right so it would alighn right to be welded up. Got it done, but it took more time than I thought it would.
