Farmall Cub

I have a 1976 IH Cub that wont't start unless I pull a plug wire off to the point where I can see the arc from the wire to the plug. While running I attempt to put the wire all the way on the plug, however as soon as the rubber hits the the plug it goes dead and doesnt want to crank again unless I start all over where I can see the arc. Any suggestions as to what is happening?

New spark plugs? Plugs are probably fouled.

When was last complete tune up?

That is my first step. I have new wires in the truck and plugs on order. Not sure when the last complete tune up was done, havent had it long. Thank you for your reply.

Make sure your new wires are solid metal core, not resistor wires.

As Eugene said, fouled plugs can do exactly as your tractor is doing.

I've had that happen on a single cylinder kohler. Plug was shorted to ground internally. Fought that damnable thing for a weekend years ago and will never forget it. Probably the last time I ever used Champions too.
