Throw out bearing retainer ears?
Well after adjusting my clutch in my 154 i ended up with a new problem for some reason . The throwout bearing retainer keeps twisting within the yoke causing me to lose my clutch . What exactly would be causing the retainer to be twisting ? the fingers on the clutch from friction? if so would greasing the contact points of the bearing to fingers help get me by through this mowing season ?

Re: Throw out bearing retainer ears?
I'm thinking there are a couple of reasons.
Wear or slop in the shift fork. Check the shift fork for worn areas. Each tine of the fork should be rectangle shape. Weld to fill and reshape as necessary. Perhaps the fork tines have widened due to the wear.
Also take a look at the retainer. This wears as well, though being cast is more difficult to repair.

Re: Throw out bearing retainer ears?
Well after getting a good look at it my shift fork has some slop in it . Will it hurt anything if i compress the fork around the throwout bearing such as putting a bolt through one side of the fork to the other without doing any damage ? Iam trying to make it last till at least late fall if possible .

Most of the time just bending them back into shape with a vise will do the trick.

Re: Throw out bearing retainer ears?
The throwout bearing kept twisting to the left side of the tractor and it ripped off the zerk fitting again so that's another fix . Ill try bending it first as you suggested . Any suggestions on how to keep the whole retainer from twisting again and ripping another zerk fitting off ?
