185 deck cylinder won't move?

Postby JohnnyJay » Wed May 31, 2017 8:50 pm

My deck cylinder won't move. Stuck in the up position. Removed each of the 3 drain, fill plugs from the rear and only the one on the left leaked out. The rear lift, cylinder works great. Am I out of fluid? What are the 3 drain plugs in the rear go To? And what kind of hydronic fluid do I Need? Thanks ahead.

I can't speak to your problem, per say, but just one from my experience. I used to service a 184, for a lady, each spring. Each year, when the tractor came out of winter storage, the deck would not lower, on it's own. I would stand on the deck while holding the lever in the lower position, the deck would lower and work as it should all season. Next Spring, do it again.

Hy-tran hydraulic fluid or compatible.

You can down load the operator's manual for the tractor, top left of page, Quick Links. The operator's manual has the lubrication points and type of grease or fluid.

There are several different hydraulic control systems on the Numbered Cub Low-Boys. If you read through my previous post, it will or should explain how your system works.

Someting to check are the bearing blocks that mount the rock shaft. They have a tendency to gall and make deck hard to lower. They should have grease zerks. If the cylinder can go down but the deck won't move it is probably the bearing blocks. The deck should lower by itself with gravity. If you have to stand on it check the blocks. If cylinder won't move make sure the selector valve is set for the deck cylinder. The engine needs to be running to lower the deck cylinder. You can also stand on the deck and put the lever forward to the float position and hold the clutch down and crank the engine and the deck should lower.

I'd loosen the clamps on the rocker shaft next and oil or grease them.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Thanks for the help, I got the deck to work. But now I have another problem, the PTO lever will not keep the PTO turning. What am I missing?
