If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem. My wife says I don't listen to her. - - - - - - - - Or something like that! http://www.cubtug.com
Re: angle grinder safetyDitto on the "been there done that" , I had a disc come unglued a few years ago, I was wearing safety glasses . I was not using the guard, it hit me in the face . Standard procedure for me now is full face mask and safety glasses and the guard is always in place ! We live and learn.

Re: angle grinder safetyI can tell you they turn at a high RPM... with a wire wheel they will suck up a rag in less than the blink of any eye. Sure glad it wasn't the sleeve of the rag I was wearing!
Probably not a good value to buy the cheap disks either. 1971 Cub (Rufus) 1950 Cub (Cathy) 1965 Lo Boy Fast Hitch (Nameless III) 1970 Cub 1000 Loader & Fast Hitch (Lee)

Re: angle grinder safety
that thought! I had moved away from the "cheap" wire wheels already.I guess I had thought of the guard more as protection from what you were grinding on (i.e. sparks!) not as protection from the discs. I sent the link to my dad and son, thanks for sharing, David
Re: angle grinder safetyWe lost a friend at a local body shop to one of those a while back. Came apart and hit him in the neck, he died on the spot in his own body shop. I think of that everytime I use one now.

Re: angle grinder safetyThat is a Real Eye Opening Video. I think we're all guilty at times of becoming over confident and not repecting the incredible power of the tools we use. We all need to be reminded often. Thanks For Posting

Re: angle grinder safetyMike that is sure an eye opener, those angle grinders are great tools if used properly.
Thanks for the nudge on safety To soon old to late smart!
Re: angle grinder safetyThanks, Mike. When I go out to the Cub House, soon, I'm going to find those guards I took off both my grinders and install them. Thanks again for the reminder.

Re: angle grinder safetyMike,
Thanks for the post. I showed the video to my son's 4H Piston Pushers Club a couple of weeks back. You could hear a pin drop in the shop. Peter

The guards are installed. Thanks again. Bill "The probability of life originating from accident is comparable to the probability of the unabridged dictionary resulting from an explosion in a printing shop." Edwin Conklin, biologist
Re: angle grinder safety
Just wanted to give you folks an update. Spent the last couple of hours with a knotted wire brush on a 4.5 inch angle grinder. Normally I resemble someone who agitated a porcupine with all the wires stuck in my clothes and, occasionally, in me. Not a one today!!! The floor where I was standing is covered with pieces of the brush. Pieces that could have been stuck in me. Thank you so much, Mike. I'm not going to take those shields/guards off again.
