Nice work.

I spend my winters reloading(bullets), restoring surplus military rifles to there orginal condition (cleaning them up). I have all the ice fishing stuff too. I just can't see walking on the ice and seeing the water comming up thru my drilled hole in the ice while it flexes. (scary) Plus i never catch anything then iwas told most go ice fishing to drink and eat. I guess I got it wrong.

Well winter is set in hard here in New England. To cold to work outside so it must be time to make another fishing rod. I have purchased my rob blank and the rod I will be making will be a fly rod. This will be my first fly rod I have built. 9 ft 8/9wt for fishing in the saltwater for Stripped Bass and Blue fish. These fish run 24" to up to 40" so this needs to be a strong rod. I will post some pictures as I get it going.

Well I thought I would do a little progress report as I build. Step one is to make a handle out of cork.

The disk have been filed to fit on a threaded rod arbor for gluing and the turning.

This picture shows the handle I want to replicate. I need to glue it up and the start with the lathe to shape it.

I don't know about using Molson for glue. You might want to use something with a little better adhesive qualities.

Do you think I should switch to Molsen Canadian rather than the Molsen golden. That has been bothering me for some time. Maybe on the next rod. Thanks for the input!!

All glued up and then I put the handle in a drill press while on the arbor and sanded it down to where I wanted it. I decided to add 2 slices of cedar to add some color and break up the look of the cork.







Next step is to hone out the inside of the handle to fit the rob blank. Now I need a trip to the rod store to pick up the reel seat and some guides. It will need to wait till next week because work gets in the way some times.
