Took this 160 lbs doe on the 24th with a Browning 270 a-bolt. My 7mm's scope was off by a foot at least, causing me to miss an even bigger doe.

Re: First deerMost deer down here are small, but that makes it even more challenging to kill a nice sized deer.

Re: First deerAwesome deer! I didn't know you could use a center-fire rifle in FL. Years ago when I was using a rifle in Upper Michigan I used a Remington Model 4 semi-auto in a 270. Great caliber and great deer!!

Re: First deerNice deer Seth. I know there are some bigger deer around your part of the state. You'll have to come over one weekend and go hunting with me in the piney woods of NE Fla some time!!

Re: First deerThere is a separate muzzleloader season, two days in late November and two more in mid February. Shotgun falls into genaral gun season (Nov. 26-29, 2009 and Dec. 12, 2009 - Feb. 17, 2010)

Re: First deerExcellent job, Seth. I know you're happy. It's very satisfying to sit at a meal and know that what you're eating is the fruit of your labor - especially when you clean and process the deer yourself. I shot a doe and button buck last night, and we just got finished this evening processing all the burger and prepping the cube steaks to be cubed. That was in addition to the 30+ lbs of liver pudding we fixed and put away over the last two days !!!!
