Unknown critter(s)????

They are attacking my corn!!!!!
I spent big $$$ & installed 8' PVC coated wire mesh fencing & something is getting in
I thought it was raccoons but wouldn't they knock over the stalks when they tried to climb up? All the ears of corn are still there but they have all been eaten in place. I look out over the garden from my office & don't see any activity during the day like excessive birds or even squirrels.
What to do, what to do

same thing happened to me 2-3 days ago. i've concluded it's a red squirrel, which, as you probably know, can wiggle its way through just about any-sized opening. check for the tell-tale paw-punctures where they've held on. if it's only the tops, it's either squirrels or small birds - any bent or broken ears or stalks, then we're talkin' crows or 'coons.

what to do?!!! well... having been brought up on a farm, and with great respect for life...

I agree with Bold. It probably is squirrels. It happened to me this year. Something was eating my corn on the stalk but not pulling down the stalk like coons. Knew it wasn't crows. Sometimes the ear would be carried out to the end of the row and eaten. One morning when I was going to the garden, I saw a squirrel with an ear in his mouth headed down the middle, jumped the fence, and to the woods he went. First time to see that.

Yup I agree, it is those bushey tailed rats aka as squirrels.

Bastages!!!!! They are probably crawling right up & over the fence. I think my 3030 is a little excessive (for now ) so I might pull out the pellet rifle & get in a little target (moving target) shooting.

I spend $50 for corn seed, i planted extra because i knew the deer, squirrels, crows and racoons would get there share, after all they all have to eat too. This way when we need meat we know were they beena eaten. Just fatten those babies up, it all tastes like chicken.

Me and the misses looking out the bedroom window at dusk spotted papa, moma and two baby racoons crossing the street comming out of the bottom land and into our yard going full bore towards are corn. It was a saturdaynite so they were going out to dinner on my corn. I'm the only guy in my area with a fast food drive thru for animals. Even the rabbits are getting fat too. Rabbit catchatore sure does taste good too....

My grandpa had a way of killing all those varmints. Now I DO NOT RECOMEND THIS & THIS IS DANGERUS !!!
Being of the old school & It did work " Note there were no little kids around. " He would run a electric fence about 4" above the ground and wire a sliced cantaloupe to wire about every 5 foot. Then attach the Hot leg of a 120 volt power from the barn. and hang a light out side off the same outlet. and plug it in. When the varmints took a bite out of the cantaloupe they were electrocuted and blow the fuse/ breaker killing the light. Grandpa would then unplug the line, clear the kill, plug power back in and reset the breaker.
Worked day and night.
Note - Do Not Do This again it is extremely DANGEROUS !!!!!!!
This is a information of how it was done in the days of old... like working skyscrapers hi steel with out safety concerns.
