danged antlered rodents!

Postby ScottyD'sdad » Mon Jul 08, 2013 6:53 am

Having deer problems in the garden. Butternut squash plants, pruned. More irritating, green tomatoes, picked, and thrown around, not eaten. Can't use "hungry", for an excuse, there. Getting a bad itch, on the trigger finger! Ed

They have pruned a bit for me. So far good food is also elsewhere but if it gets dry then the garden looks good to them. They come at night and seemed somewhat detered by a fishline about three feet up. Their hearing is good but sight not as good. Anything one the line to rattle. My vine garden has a regular woven wire fence topped by three twine lines about two feet apart giving a height of seven feet. They leave that alone. I have had them eat my entire lettuce crop in one night. I don't mind sharing but they don't know the meaning of that word! Vern

Plenty of "their food" around. They just want mine, and as you said, they don't share! Ed

Ed, Several years ago we went to a family reunion in Cody, WY at my cousin's. A herd of 200+ elk grazed off 80 acres of alfalfa the night before it was going to be cut.

Joe,
Does Massachusetts have "Nuisance Tags"? If so, you should be able to go there now.
Erik would be willing to take care of a couple himself!

You could call it a DeereFest

Bob, Steve, the commercial grower in the area, uses clear plastic row covers, for starting early corn. Deer hooves punch "vent holes" in it, every year, so I think that they like their corn later in the season! Ed
