Farm accidentYesterday a friend of mine got his foot caught in a auger in a grain cart. He was trying to kick some rice down and his son was sitting on the tractor and he let the clutch out to try and jerk it loose. It tore it off at the ankle but they are going to have amputate below the knee so that the prostesis will fit better. Another bad thing is that he has recently found out that he is diabetic. That will make the healing much harder and longer. He has farmed all his life and is nearing retirement. We just all need to be more careful.
Eight Cubs-finally got a '57.
That is tough to take. he and his family have our family's prayers.

I read this earlier and didn't know how to post my best wishes for his recovery. I do know a number of people with an artificial leg below the knee and most of them dance. Dance any dance anybody else dances. I pray for his recovery to be equally as complete. The only complaint i have heard from them is that you still have to buy a pair of shoes. Franks daughter has 2 young kids and she still out runs them. I have danced jitterbug with her. and rock and roll.

Garvin,
I remember readin this post last year. At the time I prayed for your friend's recovery. When I read this post again this evening I hoped that it would end with a positive follow up about your friend. Was his recovery complete? Can he dance with his prothesis? I hope so.
Prayers are with him and family. My cousin had a similar accident years ago. His sleeve got caught and it pulled it loose from the shoulder and ripped his arm right off. He survived and later was taken by a heart condition. It pays to be on your P's and Q's when working around stuff like that.
Sorry to read about your friends mishap. I swear to God farming is very dangerous and something you should never do alone.
Well, if anything good can be said. The war in Iraq has definately caused a lot of research on artifical limbs. There are some very good artifical hands, legs, and feet now available. Keep his spirits up!
Re: Farm accidentOur prayers are with him and his family as well.
